The outpouring of love for a funeral is astounding. I've never seen anything like it. The food alone is amazing. Friends come together and provide for you. It's overwhelming. I had to ask Jessica (in Alabama) to check on something big at my house while we were gone and she was more than happy to. How nice is that?
Tim was very near the end of his life on Saturday when his four kids decided to come into town and see him in his last days. Sunday Michael got up and drove in. Their family was alone, just the six of them, like the old days, for a while and it was so good for all of them. Tim's mom, brother, and sister came in and they were laughing and telling old stories. Outside life needed to be set aside and love is the only thing that mattered.
By Tuesday it was uncertain how long Tim would still be around, so Michael came home. I made him some comfort food dinner and washed all of his clothes. At 9:45 Tuesday night, Michael came in crying and I knew Tim had passed. He decided he wanted to come right back to his family first thing the next morning, so we stayed up late setting the kitties up to be home alone, and packed our suitcases. Michael was so particular about what he would wear to the funeral. No ties were good enough. He wanted the pants washed and fresh - at 10:00 at night. I can do that! No problem. He was extremely happy and proud to wear his dad's favorite tie clip with his suit for the funeral, which his mom gave him the other day.
Wednesday we arrived in NC around 6:00 or so. Vicky and Nathanael were there alone sorting through pictures to use for the funeral, and Jessica and her family were on their way. Vicky headed over to church while we ate dinner with Nathanael. We stayed until Jessica and family arrived around 9:45. I think we didn't head to the hotel until around 11:00. Here are some fun photos of the cooped up kids being crazy and having fun.
Tim would not want us sitting around crying all day. He would want life going on and laughter to happen. The Day family is still the Day family. Stories, laughter, love, craziness, energy. We tear up when we talk about Tim, but then someone is cracking another joke and we are drying our eyes.

Tobacco fields next to their house. I don't think I've ever seen a tobacco farm before. |
Araya took to Kara right away, which I love. |
Chance is always blurry because he never stops moving. Ever. |
The boys LOVE wrestling with Uncle Michael. It is constant. |
Araya is so very much like Kara that I am having flash backs. I absolutely love being around her because she brings back memories of my sweet, shy, quiet, precious little girl. |
