Math is Hard

Wednesday is always super busy.  Bible study at 7:30am (ouch!), home in time to do school with Kara, usually horse lessons in the middle of school, get to church early so Kara can serve, then teach Bible study at 6:00pm, home by 8:00pm.  Whew!

I try to not leave the house Thursday so I can recover from Wednesday - sleep in, do laundry, grocery store, cook dinner, whatever.  We also do bigger school days Thursday to make up for less time on Wednesday.

Now that we are at the end of sixth grade, we are down to only three subjects left:  math, reading, and spanish.  She also does a devotional in the morning - she's going through Philippians.  She ended up having three math lessons and a math test assigned for Thursday and math got hard FAST.  She was working on geometry - finding the volume of all different solids - each with their own formula.  Volume of a cone, volume of a prism, volume of a pyramid.  THEN she needed to know how to find the surface area for all three different kinds of shapes.  We needed to switch it up and go back to the white board like the old days so she could lay on the floor and not feel so much pressure at the table.

Laying on the floor while I teach on the white board.

Changing up the way the material is presented opened
Kara's mind and she soaked it right up.

Even though I am not a great artist.

Eventually she stepped up to the board to work these.
She ended up with an A- on her test and she is happy to put geometry aside for a while.  Now we are back to algebra, gearing up to start graphing with the y functions.  Rise over run.  All that stuff.  I LOVED that stuff.  We are gearing up with function tables and domain/range talks, etc.  Math got hard fast - we will take it as it comes and see how it goes.  If she is focusing, giving her all, and feels she can't understand, we will step back, but she feels good about the material so far, so full speed ahead.

P.S.  I'm glad today is Friday.  :-)

The organizer in me loves a graph - drawn with a ruler and placed on the graph in the exact right place. Maybe a little OCD. :-)

And thank you for your compliment. You may be biased thought! <3
